Darien Bernard is an LA-based independent pop artist from Dallas, TX. Growing up, he was constantly surrounded by the sounds of jazz and soulful music. He knew very early on that music was what he needed to be doing in life. He started off playing piano and singing in his grandparents' living room and at recitals, which turned into karaoke nights with friends, then on to college acappella and YouTube cover videos - until he ventured off into his own sonic that was unique to only him.

In 2019, Darien released his debut EP, ‘king.' while working with a student-run record label at his university. Produced and written by himself, ‘king.’ told a short story of Darien’s young adulthood - the heartbreak, the growth, and the release of anxiety. It acted as an immortal affirmation to himself that he could always return to. He wanted it to be a reminder whenever in doubt of himself that he can never let his crown fall. Darien’s experimental instincts led him to creating two interlude tracks, ‘king interlude’ and ‘breathe.’ that served as built-in vaults of the various other ideas he had that didn’t make it to the full length songs. They set the tone for Darien’s vocally-driven songs that continued to dominate his catalog.

After university, Darien packed up and drove to Los Angeles at the height of the pandemic in 2020. His first single after moving to LA, ‘Ride’, is what pushed him into a new sound, which is heavily inspired by nostalgia and pulls influences from Majid Jordan, Ariana Grande, and Tinashe. His style of writing is inspired by theirs as well as the old R&B and gospel music he listened to growing up.

Through his music, Darien expresses his vision of the world: colorful, fun, sexy, and at times somber - all of the motions in between.Writing the soundtrack to life’s experiences continues with his new single "Final Call," Darien's wavelength about how ignorance can be bliss and finally letting go.
